Statement Issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the positive development represented by the US Senate's approval of a budget bill to repeal the so-called "Caesar Act," which was imposed on the former regime as a result of its crimes against the Syrian people. Its continuation after the regime's demise has left grave humanitarian and economic repercussions on our Syrian people and has negatively impacted the lives of civilians across various sectors.
The Ministry expresses its appreciation for this responsible approach and extends its sincere thanks to the US legislative circles that have reconsidered previous policies. This constitutes a constructive step toward correcting the course of bilateral relations between the Syrian Arab Republic and the United States of America, contributing to strengthening regional security and stability and opening the way to promising opportunities for humanitarian, economic, and political cooperation.
The Ministry sees this shift as having extremely important strategic significance, as it reflects a qualitative shift in the international community's view of the Syrian issue. It paves the way for national and social recovery efforts, reconstruction, and economic revitalization. It also contributes to fostering a climate of trust and lays the foundation for a more stable and cooperative phase at the regional and international levels.
